Ninja data analysis with a detection pipeline based on the Hilbert-Huang Transform

چکیده
The Ninja data analysis challenge allowed the study of the sensitivity of data analysis pipelines to binary black hole numerical relativity waveforms in simulated Gaussian noise at the design level of the LIGO observatory and the VIRGO observatory. We analyzed NINJA data with a pipeline based on the Hilbert Huang Transform, utilizing a detection stage and a characterization stage: detection is performed by triggering on excess instantaneous power, characterization is performed by displaying the kernel density enhanced (KD) time-frequency trace of the signal. Using the simulated data based on the two LIGO detectors, we were able to detect 77 signals out of 126 above SNR 5 in coincidence, with 43 missed events characterized by signal to noise ratio SNR<10. Characterization of the detected signals revealed the merger part of the waveform in high time and frequency resolution, free from time-frequency uncertainty. We estimated the timelag of the signals between the detectors based on the optimal overlap of the individual KD time-frequency maps, yielding estimates accurate within a fraction of a millisecond for half of the events. A coherent addition of the data sets according to the estimated timelag eventually was used in a nal characterization of the event. ar X iv :0 90 3. 20 26 v1 [ gr -q c] 1 1 M ar 2 00 9 Ninja data analysis with a detection pipeline based on the Hilbert-Huang Transform 2

Nonlinear and Non-stationary Vibration Analysis for Mechanical Fault Detection by Using EMD-FFT Method
The Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) is a powerful method for nonlinear and non-stationary vibrations analysis. This approach consists of two basic parts of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Hilbert spectral analysis (HSA). To achieve the reliable results, Bedrosian and Nuttall theorems should be satisfied. Otherwise, the phase and amplitude functions are mixed together and consequently, the ...
متن کاملSubsea Free Span Pipeline Damage Detection Based on Wavelet Transform under Environmental Load
During their service life, marine pipelines continually accumulate damage as a result of the action of various environmental forces. Clearly, the development of robust techniques for early damage detection is very important to avoid the possible occurrence of a disastrous structural failure. Most of vibration-based damage detection methods require the modal properties that are obtained from mea...
متن کاملUltrasonic Thickness Inspection of Oil Pipeline Based on Marginal Spectrum of Hilbert-Huang Transform
Measurement of pipeline wall thickness is one of the main contents of nondestructive inspection on offshore oil pipeline. A novel approach based on the marginal spectrum of the Hilbert-Huang transform is proposed for ultrasonic echo signal processing. The demodulated ultrasonic echo signal contains the thickness information of pipeline wall, which is an approximately periodic signal. The margin...
متن کاملA Time-Frequency approach for EEG signal segmentation
The record of human brain neural activities, namely electroencephalogram (EEG), is generally known as a non-stationary and nonlinear signal. In many applications, it is useful to divide the EEGs into segments within which the signals can be considered stationary. Combination of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Hilbert transform, called Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), is a new and powerful ...

This paper investigates an underwater noise target classification algorithm in order to identify vessels in shallow water. To this aim the Hilbert Huang transform has been used to extract features in order to be used in a classifier. The Support Vector Machine has been considered to identify targets. The proposed method based on Hilbert Huang Transform shows considerable gain against similar ap...
